Sunday 11-07-04 –– PENTUCKET SACHEMS 12, HW GENERALS 6
In a hard-fought contest between two very good football teams, the
Pentucket Sachems were able inch by the Hamilton-Wenham Generals,
scoring the winning touchdown with no time remaining on the game clock.
The General’s only points were scored by an off-tackle run by Casey
Coyler midway through the 1st quarter. The Sachems were able to tie the
score on a 3rd quarter running play about 8 yards out. The balance of
the contest had the Generals close to scoring on several occasions, but
just coming up short. The Generals A- Team undefeated in the season up
to this game played courageously and every player should be proud of
their effort. The next game is Sunday at 2:30pm at home as the Generals
take on Ipswich. A-Team Record is 7-1 |

Sunday 10-31-04 – HW GENERALS 20 –
AMESBURY JETS 8 On an unusually warm day for
the end of October, the Hamilton-Wenham Generals A – Team extended their unblemished record to 7-0. In a well played contest the General’s offensive line and team defense provided all that was necessary for the Generals to capture their 7th straight victory over a much-improved
Amesbury team. Playing at home, this contest started with the General’s Tony Kennedy booming the opening kickoff over the Jet’s receiver’s head. This benefit however was short lived, when the General’s were not able to capitalize on the good field position. With 4th and long the Jet’s
punter was able to take a high snap and run it around the General defense for a 1st down. The 1st quarter ended scoreless after both teams were able to rack up fairly significant yardage on offense. The Generals gained momentum in the second quarter as the General’s defense
began to get a bead on the Jet’s running backs forcing them to quickly give up the ball. At the same time the General’s offense began to roll as running back Blake Riley, behind textbook blocking, sped around and through the Jet’s defensive line and secondary. Riley’s speed was no
match for the Jet’s defense as he scored twice on long running plays. Ending the first half the Generals, still failing to convert the extra point plays lead 12-0.
The third quarter started with the General’s receiving and in one of the most impressive offensive drives of the season, marched into Jet territory. Again behind well executed blocking, the offensive line was able to make enough daylight for running backs Derrick Keith and Steve Domoracki to churn up significant yardage. This drive was capped off
with Keith taking the ball 30+ yards into the end zone. The extra point running play by Domoracki was good putting the General’s up 20-0. During the quarter when the Generals did not have the ball, the General’s
defense lead by linebacker Tony Kennedy was downing the Jets as fast as they could snap the ball. The 4th quarter was marked with the Generals now playing a loose prevent type defense and the Jet’s offense
attempting some long pass and miss-direction plays in an attempt to get back into the game. The Generals with a 20-point cushion in the fourth were able to freely substitute and in doing so getting some fresh legs
into the game. This helped maintain ball possession, keeping the Jets offense sidelined. Congratulations to the entire A-Team squad for their 7th straight win for the season!

Generals “C” Team Just
Misses Jets The H-W Youth Football "C" team lost 12-6 against an evenly-matched Amesbury Jets team. Ian Dickey had a great game moving the ball several times up the middle and around the right side behind some improved blocking from Jim McLellan, Drew Schimmel, Nick Loeper, Kyle Craig and Christian Ecker.
Other notable Offensive efforts came from Andrew Schlecht who took his first carry of the season up the middle for a tough two yard gain and came up a little “shaken but not deterred” after a hard-hitting Jets tackle. Ecker also made some nice runs against the heart of the Jets “D”
carrying linebackers for some nice yards after contact. The defense did a much better job containing the outside as Defensive Ends James Burr, Dickey, Jack Clay and Andrew Cavanaugh maintained their outside position
forcing the ball carriers back into their pursuing teammates. Blake Denman made some solid open-field and inside tackles and Brad Kimball, Luke Nagle and Stephen Brao all improved their play along the line of scrimmage. The Generals and Jet teams were well matched as this has been the first season for many of the players. Many of the "moms'" in the crowd as well as the kids on the field are learning more about football every week. Keep up the good work team and coaches, only 2 games left. |

the Danvers defense. Playing well for the Generals on defense were Sean
O'Keefe, PJ Clay, Andrew McKay and Andy Duval. Solid blocking from Eric

HW GENERALS 34 – WINTHROP VIKINGS 0 -
Playing at home in a classic New England Fall football game that
included a cool misting rain, the Hamilton-Wenham A – Team ransacked the
Winthrop Vikings 34 – 0. In a lopsided contest the HW A Team dominated the Winthrop Vikings
from start to finish. For the Vikings, the only bright spot of the day
would come with winning of the coin toss. However that benefit was short
lived as on their first set of downs the HW Generals overpowering
defense shut them down on their first 3 plays, netting the Vikings
negative yards. Then with HW’s first play of the game Quarterback Jay
Bial passed to Running Back Blake Riley for a well-executed 50 yard
Touchdown run. The extra point run by Riley, behind effective blocking,
was good for 2 more.
With the Generals playing un-relentless defense, the Viking had to again
quickly give up the ball. Back on offense, and starting on their own
45-yard line, the second HW offensive play of the game was another pass
to Riley. This time Riley was not touched as he took it down the
sideline, motoring pass the Viking’s secondary like their paddles were
stuck in the water. This play went for another 60 yards as well as
another General’s TD. Steve Domoracki punched it in, scoring the 2 extra
points on a running play.
Following a nice tackle on the HW kickoff by Christian Heath, the
defense again stopped the Vikings offense in 3 downs.
Back on offense, the Generals now elected to keep the ball on the ground
and on the 3rd play of the set Derrick Keith found daylight in a sweep
around the Vikings left side. Breaking several tackles along the way,
Keith hurled the 45 yards and into the end zone for the General’s third
Touchdown of the day. The extra point run was stopped just short.
During the next set of offensive downs by the Vikings, General’s
Linebacker Supreme Tony Kennedy made a nice effort to break up a 10-yard
pass play. Back on offense and following a nice 40 yard run by Riley,
the General’s running back Casey Coyler had his turn with a masterful
run up the middle for 40 yards and the 4th TD of the contest. The
Vikings did however stop the extra point run.
After the ensuring kickoff that saw Justin Mullen make a nice down field
tackle, the Vikings again tried to go to the air. But again the
General’s big D was too much for them, forcing another Viking’s punt.
The General’s fifth TD of the contest came on a powerful run up the
middle by General’s running back Jason Teal. The extra point attempt was
no good.
With a 5 TD lead and the General’s starters taking a breather, the rest
of the Generals A squad pitched in superbly to maintain the 34-point
lead and to preserve the shutout.
Congratulations to the entire A-Team squad for their 6th straight win
for the season!
A-Team Record is 6-0. |

The Generals B team game
stood in a moment of silence and then released balloons in memory of
Clark Puter, father of teammate Matt Puter. The game began with a quick score by Winthrop although Hamilton’s
strong defensive line held back the conversion points keeping the score
6- 0. J.C Vivian received the kick off and took the ball to the goal
line for Hamilton’s first Touch Down and a big catch by Jake Prince for
the extra points gave Hamilton the lead 8-6. Taylor Drinkwater recovered
a fumble and the Generals Marched down the field with strong offensive
drives by Ryan Heath, Matt Puter, and Elliott Burr. A great catch by
Dillon Keith set up for a sweeping run by J.C.Vivian to gain a 20 yard
T.D for a 14-6 Generals lead.
Shane Jenkins broke through the line to make a quarterback sack and a
15-yard loss for Winthrop. Generals had strong defensive games from Ted
Beckman and Zach Dolan as well as two key game saving tackles by Matt
Puter and Ryan Heath. Winthrop inched their way to a T.D. and barely
made the extra points to tie the game 14-14. Generals had a strong
offensive drive in the end but ran out of time. Final score 14 –14. |

Sunday 10-17-04 – HW GENERALS 28 – NORTH ANDOVER KNIGHTS 0
Playing away on the Scarlet Knight’s new home turf, the
Hamilton-Wenham Generals A – Team once again played a terrific game,
shutting out the North Andover Knights 28-0. Right out of the block, on
the General’s 2nd offensive play of the game, running back Blake Riley
took off on a off-tackle run for 60 yards and the first touchdown of the
day. The General’s offensive line blocking throughout the game was
excellent. This play was no exception. The extra point run was stopped
short. After playing a solid set on defense. General’s QB Jason Bial
connected with Steve Domoracki for a nice 20-yard gain. This was
followed by a Blake Riley 30 yard run behind solid blocking. The 2 plays
later the Generals run a well-executed reverse, which had Blake Riley
running the remaining 30 yards for the General’s 2nd TD. The extra point
pass was no good. Back on defense and on one of the most exciting plays
of the game, the General’s Linebacker Tony Kennedy dropped back and
intercepted a Knight’s QB pass. This was followed by an impressive 80
yard run back to the Knight’s 1-yard line. General’s running back Casey
Coyler then punched it in for 6 more points. The extra point pass
attempt was no good. In the crowd there was a collective groan when, on
the ensuring General’s kickoff Tony Kennedy not only kicked the ball,
but also applying a potent bone-rattling run-stopping hit. A few
plays later, Knight’s QB was again intercepted. This time it was
General’s Safety Christian Heath, who ran it back for 20 yards. During
this offensive set the General’s running back Steve Domoracki proceeded
to have 2 impressive, long runs down to the Knight 20-yard line. This
was followed by hand off to the General’s running back Olly Locke, who
behind some of the excellent down field blocking, broke several tackles
for an outstanding 19-yard Touchdown run. Extra point run by Christian
Heath was good. While game standouts were many, the following
individuals deserve special mention: - Chris Roy, Blake Riley, Jason
Bial, Christian Heath, Jeremy Walton, Joe Talbot, David Littlefield,
Andy Smith, Tony Kennedy, Casey Coyler, Derrick Keith, Cory Daff, Steve
Domoracki, Jason Teal, Wit Vivian and David Truschel. The next game is

when Elliott Burr scored on a 30 yard power drive to tie the game. Jake

HW GENERALS 14 – NORTH READING HORNETS 8 With two
touchdowns returned due to penalties the HW Generals were still able to
hold on to defeat the North Reading Hornets by a score of 14 to 8. In a
contest that saw the Hornets play well against the more talented
Generals, the General were able to finally score their first TD, during
the second quarter, on a pass from Quarterback Jay Bial to a wide-open
Derrick Keith. The 2-point attempt was no good. The final HW score of
the day also occurred during the second quarter, when HW Safety Blake
Riley intercepted a Hornet pass and ran it 30-yards into the Hornet’s
end zone. The extra point attempt was good for 2 more points.
The second half saw the Hornets come out and sting the General’s
secondary for a well-executed 40-yard TD pass. The Hornets were not done
yet as on the extra point attempt the Hornets QB stung again when he
rolled right and successfully threw a pass to a wide-open North Reading
Tight End. While during this contest the overall Generals team effort
looked flat, David Littlefield was outstanding as defensive tackle,
sacking the Hornet’s QB several times. Casey Coyler also did a good job
blocking from the fullback position and Jeremy Walton played well
against a blitzing Hornet Linebacker.
The final play of the game came when the classy General’s took a knee on
the North Reading 1 yard line letting the clock run down for another

Newburyport |
JVA |
The JVA Generals hung on to win their first
game of the season 22-20 at Newburyport Saturday morning in a game that
was decided by a stuffed extra point after a late game Newburyport
score. Andy Duval connected with Michael Desclos on the first play of
the game for a 30 yard reception on a nicely executed reverse pass
option play. That put the Generals deep into Newburyport territory
setting up the first score of the game when fullback Zach Baker rumbled
up the middle from ten yards out for the first of his two touchdowns on
the day.Connor Galligan picked up the two point conversion with a nice
catch. Newburyport scored on a turnover but the Generals stuffed the
extra point. The Generals powerful offensive line anchored by center Dan
Borghetti drove down the field again in the second quarter.
Running backs
Dan Beckett and John St Pierre led the drive with strong runs off
tackle, before Baker scored again up the middle from 15yards out as the
blocking of Eric Buckley and PJ Petri provided a huge hole. The two point
conversion failed. Newburyport was able to keep pace and tied the score
before halftime. The Generals came out in the second half again and
controlled the third quarter with time of possession but neither team was
able to score. In the fourth quarter the Generals stopped Newburyport in
their own territory on a fourth and long giving them great field
position. A few plays later Duval then hit John St Pierre in the corner of
the end zone from five yards out on a quarterback option pass. Stevie
Drieze plowed in for the very important two point conversion.
Newburyport again answered with another score on a twenty yard sweep, but
the Generals defense led by the aggressive end play of Paul Littlefield
shut down the two point conversion. Newburyport would still get another
opportunity to score late in the game but the Generals came up with big
plays from Andrew Mckay and Billy Martin made a great open field tackle
in the flat to help secure the first win. The Generals will be looking
to make it two in a row next Saturday at home against the North Reading.

Sunday 10-3-04 – HW GENERALS 20 – NEWBURYPORT
CLIPPERS 6
While the sky’s were clear over Newburyport this past Sunday,
on the field there was “a Perfect Storm” brewing as the HW Generals
A-Team submerged the Newburyport Clippers taking their 3rd straight game
of the early 2004 season. The first half, while hard fought, had both
teams racking up some significant yards on offense, but failing to
score. After kicking off to Newburyport to start the 2nd half, the
Generals quickly got the ball back and after mounting an impressive
drive, QB Michael Carter-Williams connected for a 20 yard pass play for
the day’s 1st touchdown. Tailback Blake Riley then pounded up the middle
for the extra points. On the next set of downs, with the Clippers
working on offense from their end of the field, a pass intended for the
Clipper’s tight end was picked off by Linebacker Tony Kennedy and
returned 30 yards for HW’s 2nd touchdown. During the General’s
next possession, Blake Riley scored again on an outstanding off tackle
run for 40 yards. While again this week the A-Team’s victory was an
overall team effort win, special mention goes to Cory Daff, Chris Roy,
Jason Teal and Tony Kennedy for their many defensive tackles. Also to
Andy Duval, who did a good job coming in to run the General’s offense
after General’s starting QB Michael Carter-Williams was injured on an
extra point attempt.
The next game is Sunday at 2:30pm as the Generals take on the North
Reading Hornets. - Go Generals! A-Team Record is 3-0 |

C |
This past Sunday the "C" team lost to a great
competitor - the Danvers Falcons. 22-0. Despite not scoring, the
Generals Offense showed some improvement with a few changes in the line
and backfield. Brad Kimball switched to Center and Drew Schimmel filled
Kimball’s slot at Tackle which gave first time QB Ian Dickey and RB Kyle
Craig some nice holes to run through. Coach Steve Craig commented,
“While our Offense is still working on putting a few first downs
together, with consistent play from Jim McLellan, Blake Denman, Luke
Nagel, Jessa Hattabaugh and Drake Little, we won’t have to wait much
longer”. The Defense also showed improvement as Defensive Ends Andrew
Cavanaugh and Ian Dickey slowed the Falcons’ outside running attack with
good support from James Burr, Christian Ecker, and Peter Duval. With
only two 4th Graders returning from last year’s team, the “C” Teamers
are having to learn on the fly and are showing real improvement with
every practice. “Each week we’re seeing different players step up and
help the team”, said Coach Craig. “This week, Kimball, Schimmel and
Dickey gave us a chance to get our Offense going, and Cavanaugh, Craig,
Duval and Denman showed some good effort on D”. “The players are
starting to execute their responsibilities better, we just need to get a
lot more aggressive and do a better job of gang tackling on D”. |

Sunday September 19th the "C" team lost a hard fought game
against
Masco.33-8 It was the first game for many of these 3rd & 4th Grade players.
Christian Ecker had a fantastic 40 yard run for a touchdown late in the second
quarter and was a real force making tackles all over the field on Defense. Brad
Kimball disrupted the Masco backfield with his defensive pressure and recovered
a fumble keeping Masco from scoring. Wyatt Howell and Kyle Craig combined to
bring down the Masco running backs who managed to get outside the General
Defense on several occasions. Ian Dickey ran down a couple Masco ball carriers
from behind and James Burr made an excellent tackle in the last few minutes of
the quarter stopping a Masco run. When the players were asked by Coach Craig how
they felt after losing the game, unanimously the team's answer was "it felt
bad". Let's hope lessons were learned and the desire to try their best next time
is in their hearts.

the Hamilton-Wenham General’s A Squad took it to the Masco Chieftains, shutting
them out with a bruising 8-0 victory. In what turned out to be the winning
score, the game’s only touchdown was a 10-yard pass from Michael Carter-Williams
to Derrick Keith in the second quarter. This was followed-up with an impressive
extra point run right by Blake Riley for insurance of 2 more points. The real
story to this game came down to the superior execution of blocking and tackling
fundamentals carried out by the Generals on the line of scrimmage. Knowing that
Masco would be a difficult team to run around, the Generals provided a
relentless pounding attack up the middle lead by Tackles - Corey Daff and Andrew
Knowlton, Guards - David Littlefield and Chris Roy (and Tony Kennedy) and Center
- Jeremy Walton. This success allowed the Generals to dominate the 1st half with
superior ball control. The second half was highlighted by the 3 separate
goal-line stances mounted by the Generals, which shutout Masco’s normally potent
offensive. The defensive standouts for the Generals were many, with Middle
Linebacker Tony Kennedy providing an outstanding performance with numerous
tackles in Masco’s backfield. A-Team Record 1-0 Next week opponent is Danvers at
Home. |
